Our story

It began in 2006, with one promise made to one family.

Mr Vezokuhle Norman Nala founded Amathole Funerals with a conviction that a dignified farewell should never depend on what a family can afford. That conviction turned a single Durban office into one of the fastest-growing funeral houses in the country.

Today the name carries 56 branches across KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and Mpumalanga, a national fleet, and teams who answer the phone at 3am because grief keeps no office hours. What has not changed is the promise: we treat every service as though the family were our own.

“We do not arrange funerals. We carry families through the hardest week of their lives.”

Our Mission

To build long-term relationships with the families we serve, and to meet every need with innovative, exceptional service.

Our Vision

To deliver funeral services of a quality that consistently exceeds the expectations of the families who trust us.

Our Purpose

To stand among the most respected funeral service companies in Southern Africa through consistency, never compromise.

What we do

Every element of the farewell, handled by one team.

From the first phone call to the last chair packed away, nothing is outsourced to chance. Our consultants, mortuary teams, fleet and ceremonial crews all answer to the same standard.
